The First View Of The World

“I was born on Wednesday the 4th of June 1947 in the Maternity Unit of St Helier County Hospital at precisely 10.10am weighing 6 pounds exactly and measuring 20 inches in length. My mother┬áhad been taken to St Helier by taxi from Gordon Road in Carshalton Beeches, where my parents were living at the time, arriving there at 9.00am. In those days visiting was restricted to one visitor on Wednesday and Sunday between 7 and 9pm, although a form recording my birth that I still have, gives the concession of a husband or mother being allowed to visit the evening following baby’s birth!”

“Things have changed enormously in the last 65 years but expectant mothers still want and need local facilities to ensure the very best start in the world for their child.”
